Application for
membership Any artist wishing to
join the group should contact the secretary who will organize a group member to
act as sponsor. The sponsor will tell the
artist what the group is all about and how it is organised. They will also tell
the group about the artist and her/his work. The sponsor will explain
and help the artist, if they wish, to prepare their work for submission to the
group and will bring the work along to a meeting of the group at which a
minimum of two thirds of the members should be present. The group members will
decide by a majority vote if the artist should be invited to join the group. The successful artist
will be invited to attend three sessions of the group. If she or he wants to
continue as a member they will be asked to pay the relevant subscription from
that point onwards.
Guide to artists wishing
to join the group The main aim of the group is to develop the artistic abilities of both the individual and the group. The intention is to devise, and work to, imaginative and challenging programmes, generally indoors throughout the winter and outdoors during the summer months. As with other art groups
the social aspect is encouraged. The emphasis, however, is on dedication to
producing artwork of a good standard and to strive for continued improvement. Exhibitions of members’
work will be held at regular intervals, as can be arranged, and all members are encouraged to take part. Artists should be aware
that no formal instruction/tuition is given.
Submission of work As a guide artists should
submit some of the following to show recent work:- Some finished work. Any number of mounted paintings or drawings to show the scope of work and media regularly used. Sketches or sketchbooks which should include, if possible, examples of landscapes, life studies, still life and portraits. Any drawings/sketches
showing a breadth of preparation leading to finished work. Any other work which the
artist feels would support their application. An invitation to join the
group will be based only on the work supplied.
